Slavery: Truth vs. Myth
White Europeans Did Not Invent Slavery; They Ended It!
Human Slavery was part of the economic system of the ancient world. It was not based on race, all humans were subject to enslavement by the tyrannical beings who ruled the theocratic monarchies in that age. There was one exception, the God of Abraham did not permit the ancient Israelites to own slaves. There is no word for “slavery,” in the Bible.
The Israelites were permitted to hold a debtor in servitude; however, at the seventh year of the Jubilee, regardless of the state of their debt, all servants had to be given a choice between willing servitude, or freedom. When the leaders in Israel failed to follow that law, God allowed their enemies to conquer them, and remove them from the land. (See Jer. 24:1-22.)
With the collapse of the ancient world humans inherited the earth. In the deep ignorance of that age, our modern religions falsely claimed that the Bible justified slavery. As we began to overthrow the remnants of the ancient monarchies and theocracies, Europeans were the first to form constitutional monarchies and republics, and Free the Slaves. As they conquered and colonized the third world, these revolutionary concepts spread around the globe. The only countries that continued to implement the ancient laws regarding slavery, were the ones that were not subject to colonization by White Europeans, or those that re-instituted the practice when they achieved independence. In the early United States, this period of transition instigated a horrendous civil war.
These changes were not implemented with perfection; for instance, some Christians denominations used the seven-year debtors servitude of the Bible to justify the open-ended slavery of the southern U.S; nevertheless, White Europeans ended Slavery!
And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee.
And when thou sendest him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him go away empty:
Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy winepress: of that wherewith the Lord thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him. Deut. 15:12-14
Had Christianity and Judaism followed the seven-year biblical injunction for indebtedness, neither perpetual slavery or the American Civil War would have occurred. Facing that Historical Reality, will help us stop demonizing our fellow man, and unite as one race – Humans!
It’s an Ill-wind that Blows no Good
As my Irish / Scotch Mother and Father whom escaped the poverty of Europe by coming to America as willing slaves would say: “It’s an Ill-wind that Blows no Good.”
Slavery was an American tragedy; however, Africans have enriched America’s, still developing, culture. It was a terrible price to pay, but it gave millions of the descendants of African Slaves the right to be citizens in the truly wonderful experiment in self-government called the “American Experience.” We have come a long way from slavery, LET US CONTINUE.
A New World Order
The second coming of Messiah ended the economic system of slavery imposed on humanity by the theocratic monarchies of the ancient world. Humans have inherited the Earth. Slowly we are forming human governments based on freedom and the inalienable rights of the individual. In reality, Jesus freed the slaves.
